Double lock standing seam system using zinc grey textured aluminium

The design vision for this project was to create distinctive roofs with individual shaped conical sections to form the centrepiece of Robina town centre redevelopment. We needed to provide elements to go straight across each conical section with Stage 2a measuring 2,200m2 and 2b an expansive 5,800m2.

Six months were spent preparing for the project, working through numerous design challenges. Designing the conical sections was particularly complex given that each one falls 15 degrees with a radius change from top to bottom making every panel an ‘untrue banana shape’.

We worked hard to prove to ADCO that the unique concept was feasible after they’d been advised by various parties that it was an impossible task.

Proven profiles, precious metals

The double lock standing seam system using zinc grey textured aluminium ultimately gave us the pliability and design freedom required for this ambitious project.

We developed an extra innovative, superior strength paint system in Europe to handle the extreme stretching of the material and to allow for expansion without peeling. Rising to the challenge, we also sourced a critical new part for our existing machinery in order to fabricate the conical panels.

Lifelong value

The distinctive roof of the redevelopment is an iconic feature of an architectural masterpiece of impressive scale.
